Dry Shampoo Review – All Under $10

Dry Shampoo reviews

You have come to the right place if you are looking for an affordable lifesaver in a bottle. My little friend called dry shampoo.

These guys are here to help refresh your hair, extend a blowout and my favorite part, add volume and texture to your hair. I have such fine hair that I’m all about the big hair look. Check out my IGTV Dry shampoo Review (little icon at the top of the page) to see how much bigger my hair gets after one use of my favorite dry shampoo. It’s kind of impressive.

Like so many others, I have tried out multiple different kinds of dry shampoo. Looking for my holy grail in hair products! After all, I save so much time by only washing my hair once or maybe twice a week using the stuff. So I’m sharing with you affordable and working products.

The Selection Process:

This is the overwhelming part, you walk down two different isles with twenty different options to choose from and you don’t know which is worth the money. I like to start with these tips:

  • Personally I look for aerosol sprays that are more powerful so that it breaks up the powder as it comes out and doesn’t leave a residue.
  • I like to look for “invisible” shampoos first and then move on to colored specific sprays since I have dark hair.
  • A light clean fragrance is best for me. I don’t want it to be over powering all day on my head but I want my hair to smell fresh.
  • Charcoal is my new go-to these days, as I have noticed it really helps to pull the oil from my scalp and absorbs it quickly with no residue. Charcoal is purifying and detoxifying as well so win win!

Tips for using Dry shampoo

One:

On the day that I wash my hair, I make sure to take the time to really scrub and clean my scalp. After all, I have been using dry shampoo and other hair products for the last three to four days and there has to be some build up and I want to start fresh.

I have been really impressed with L’Ange purifying shampoo and Scalp exfoliator. They were having an awesome sale for black Friday so I stocked up on some products I’ve been wanting to try. Blog review coming soon! So stay tuned.

Two:

After my shower and my scalp is squeaky clean, I’ll usually blow dry my hair instead of air-drying so that I can add the style and volume I am wanting. Right after I blow dry my hair, but before I straighten or add heat, I spray my hair with dry shampoo.

I notice that when I do this step, my hair looks cleaner longer and I get to more volume that lasts.

Three:

Starting with a really deep part on the side of my head, the KEY here is to spray your shampoo about 10″ away and SHAKE WELL. Fun fact, dry shampoo is wet inside the bottle but needs time to hit the air to dry. So if you hold it too close and not give it time to dry, you will see the residue in your hair and that’s no bueno!

I work my way from one side to the other, making one inch parts all the way to the other side of my head. It is also important to note that you don’t want to over saturate your hair with the shampoo. A real quick spray does the trick.

“A little goes a long way.”

Four:

Now that I have sprayed my hair with shampoo, I let it sit on my scalp for a few minutes and then make sure to rub it in. I take my fingertips and really massage it into my head so it can start absorbing the oils right away instead of sitting on top of my hair.

This is an important step, especially on day one. It’s easier to prevent and manage the oil production of your hair by being proactive, instead of waiting for your hair to look all greasy and you try to mask it with the shampoo.

“Use Dry Shampoo as a preventative tool, not as a correction.”

Five:

On the days that I don’t wash my hair I will use the dry shampoo right before I go to bed. I found that by doing this, I had less oil production to try and mask the next few “no-wash” days.

When you spray your hair before bed, you are putting the dry shampoo to work overnight while you get some beauty rest. Any oil production over night is absorbed and rubbing your head on your pillow helps to massage it into your scalp.

Six:

One of the hardest things for me to do, don’t play with your hair! If you are like me and are constantly running your fingers through your hair, you are stimulating your scalp to produce oils. Not to mention, any dirt that’s on your hands and fingers are being transferred to your hair.

Summary:

  • Clean your scalp really good on hair wash days to remove previous build up.
  • Use dry shampoo after drying and before adding heat on hair wash days.
  • Make sure to shake well and spray about 10″ away from your scalp, and a little goes a long way.
  • Rub the dry shampoo into your scalp to really help absorb the oils after waiting a couple minutes. You can use a brush to also help evenly distribute the spray.
  • The days you don’t wash your hair, spray your hair at night before going to bed.
  • Try not to play with your hair or run your fingers through it very often if at all. This will help extend how long you can go without washing.

Happy Shampooing! (Day 4 hair)
I need to brush my brows – lol

These are just my general tips I found useful in between washes. Always remember to still read the instructions on the back of the bottle and keep in mind, what works for one hair isn’t the same on another. Hair needs trained to go days without washing so be patient and dry shampoo away!
