My name is Rachel and I have Rosacea.
(Phew that wasn’t that bad!)
Yep! I have a lovely skin condition that causes my face to flush, called rosacea. Angering my face with inflammation. And turning my face bright red. Causing puffiness and bumpy pustules. Fun! To top it off, my skin was not only red but textured and uneven. Some may not understand, but it can be painful and very uncomfortable. See the attached before and after photos below.
I used to be embarrassed by my rosacea. Honestly, it made me very self-conscious. Therefore, I refused to leave the house without makeup on. Not even the gym, the grocery store or even a dark movie theater. The confident young me was gone.
I let Rosacea Control my Life, but not for long.
I began struggling with rosacea in my early 20’s. Eventually, I became so uncomfortable in my own skin I decided to go to a dermatologist. You guessed it, my diagnosis was sub-type one, two and four.
Sub-type one: redness, flushing, noticeable blood vessels
Type two: acne-like breakout and textured, bumpy skin
Fourth type: Ocular rosacea. affecting the skin around the eyes.
Treatments:
I was put on all the creams and ointments to help with pustules and the texture of my skin and even a cosmetic cream to temporarily stop the redness. That sounded great until it wore off and intense rebound flaring happened. I even spent the money on multiple sessions of IPL therapy.
Rosacea dictated my life, my happiness and how I would feel each time I looked in the mirror. I became bound and determined to figure out how to control my skin. I wanted to look in the mirror again and like what I saw without hiding behind a mask of make-up. It’s helpful while you are making the transition to better skin.
How I have learned to control my Rosacea.
I spent $100s of dollars on different skincare products that said “gentle” “soothing” for “sensitive skin”. I bought high-end products and I have tried drug store products. Some worked then stopped. And some made my flare-ups even worse.
After a lot of trial and error. I put together a list of my staple skincare products and tools I use. Unfortunately, my flare-ups still happen but now I know how to rein it back in. Nowadays, flare-ups are rare! YAY! Listed below are just ways to help manage and control your rosacea. I’ve linked the products, mainly through amazon (2-day shipping! Duh!), but you can find them at several other stores. Like my other favorite, Target!
